"How has Oman's sailing history shaped its present and how will it continue to shape its future?"
From January to March (2023), I explored the history of the spice trade in Oman and how sailing played a significant role in determining the history of the country. This was done in two ways. The first was through multiple museum visits and guest speakers in order to better understand the historical aspect, and the second was through first-hand sailing experiences.
Through this project, I gained a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of trade, culture, and maritime innovation in shaping history. I also experienced the challenges and physical demands of sailing in the Ocean.
Ultimately, this project taught me how historical knowledge can be enriched through experiential learning, and deepened my understanding of Oman's maritime heritage.
